Denver Fire Scholarship
Deadline for 2026 is June 15th.
The Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation and the Denver Fire Department Foundation, in partnership with Burg Simpson, Philanthropy Experts, United Health Care, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, and Nightingale Advantage, are pleased to announce the 2026 Denver Fire Scholarship Program. We will award eight $1,500 scholarships to qualifying students who are the children of an active or retired Denver firefighter. This scholarship program grows from our interest in giving back to the Denver Fire community.
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Prizes
Eight scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to eight selected finalist and can be used in any way to helppay the cost of tuition, fees, books, meal plans or housing. An independent committee made up ofmembers outside the fire service will make the final decision. All essays are reviewed anonymously and allidentifying information is removed before reviewers receive the essays.

ELIGIBILITY
This competition is open to seniors in high school and older who are:

Currently in 12th grade and intend to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4-year technical college (trade school), college, or university OR a student currently enrolled as an undergraduate in an accredited 2 or 4-year technical college (trade school), college or university

Has a parent who is an active or retired member of the Denver Fire Department

Past applicants are encouraged to re-apply. However, past winners of this scholarship are not eligible.

Students will not be restricted to the number or value of scholarships from other sources to receive this award.
ESSAY TOPIC
The purpose of the essay is for the review committee to understand who you are, your goals for the future, and what motivates you. Entrants must write an original essay of 750 words answering the following topic.
“Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your goals”
“How has having a parent in the fire service influenced your life plans?”
ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
Essays must be original works. Any sources used must be properly cited and included in the Works Cited/ Bibliography. Essays cannot be more than 750 words. Citations and Bibliographies are not included in the word count.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
Application submissions for the 2026 scholarship contest will be accepted from May 15, 2026, and ending 11:59 pm June 15, 2026.
Please submit your name, contact information (phone and email), name of the institution you will be attending, and the name of your DFD member/parent along with your essay to admin@DFFCF.com.
The contest deadline is midnight June 15, 2026. Any applications received after that date will not be considered.

SELECTION DETAILS
The award winners will be notified on or before August 1, 2026. All essays submitted become the property of the Denver Fire Department Foundation and Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation.
The winner will be selected by an independent selection committee. The decisions of the independentselection committee are final.
By entering the scholarship competition, winners agree to allow the Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, the Denver Fire Department Foundation, Burg Simpson and Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreckthe right to publish the entrant’s name, photograph, images and other general information for the purposeof publicity and promotion.
Disbursement of this scholarship is awarded based upon proof of registration sent to the Denver Fire Scholarship committee. Scholarship monies will be distributed by August 15, 2026.
